Narrative/Genre

The Narrative is what happens in the story, the narrative/plot is the way it's ordered and a linear narrative is the order in which the story is being told from start to finish which is the right way. A non-linear narrative is when its not in the order that the story unfolds. An example of a fragmented narrative is Memento by Christopher Nolan where it started with the end and ending with the beginning. There was two slides of what was going on the black & white script was going backwards revealing the story while the colored script was going forward making the film complicated however that's what made the film so interesting to watch.

The genre is the type of film it is which viewers like to know before watching any film, e.g. Comedy, Action, Horror. They all have there specific set of rules and elements which is what makes it what genre it titled. Action is a well known genre which a specific type of audience look for and enjoy in a film. This genre consists of fast pacing movements, violence and extreme stunts, some of these elements can be seen in films such as The Matrix, James Bond or The Bourne Identify.

Another example of a genre is Western, this style of genre is completely different from action films as aspects such as the props, settings and events are very different. They consist of cowboys, horses and guns. Western films tend to be set in a dessert unlike action films which can be set anywhere i.e. A city, this contracts as a Western film could never be filmed in a city. Western films such as The Outlaw Josey Wales and True Grit are classic western films which are still well watched films up till now.

First Video Attempt

This was the outcome of my first attempt videoing in media in a group. This first videoing assignment was just to give us students a feel and practice time on how to operate the tape recorder. We were then asked to edit our footage's on the computer also for the first time, cutting and moving some of the shots around to ensure that we only have the shots in which we wanted, this also gave us a the opportunity to fiddle around with the editing programme and get to grips with it as were going to be editing such videos at a later stage. We were also assigned to make sure that our video consisted of a curtain range of shots. Our video consisted of; long and short ranged shots, birds-eye view shot, high to low shot and side to side shot. As you can see we were not very successful in the editing aspect of this as some of the shots were repeated and cut at the wrong, these aspects i look to improve and consider prior my next video editing.
