Alfred Hithcock

Alfred Hitchcock was born in London on August 13 1899; Alfred Hitchcock worked for a short time in engineering before entering the film industry in 1920. He left for Hollywood in 1939, where his first American film 'Rebecca', won an Academy Award for best picture. Hitchcock created more than 50 films, including the classics Rear Windows, The 39 Steps and Psycho. Nicknamed the "Master of Suspense," as he made a variety of Thriller films which ended up becoming some of the best made in the world including some of the ones we watched in my media class such as 'North by North-West'. Alfred Hitchcock was also a brilliant technician who deftly blended sex, suspense and humour. He began his film-making career in 1919 illustrating title cards for silent films at Paramount's Famous Players-Lasky studio in London. Hitchcock received the AFI's life Achievement Award in 1979. He died in 1980.
